The Room That Invited a Miracle

“Let us make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us.”
2 Kings 4:10 (NIV)

Some miracles in the Bible were not born out of desperation or prayer requests — they were born out of kindness.

One such rare and powerful story is found in 2 Kings chapter 4, the story of the Shunammite woman.

She was not poor.
She was not sick.
She was not asking God for anything.

Yet, her life became the stage for one of the most touching miracles in Scripture.

The Shunammite woman noticed that the prophet Elisha frequently passed by her village. Instead of ignoring him or offering temporary help, she chose something deeper — consistent hospitality. She prepared food for him whenever he visited.

Later, she went one step further. She told her husband, “Let us build a small room for the man of God.”

No reward was promised.
No blessing was requested.
No prophecy was expected.

She simply made room for God’s presence.

Because of her generosity, Elisha desired to bless her. When asked what she wanted, she replied humbly, “I live among my own people.” She wasn’t seeking promotion, fame, or recognition.

But God saw something unspoken — she had no child.

Through Elisha’s blessing, she conceived and gave birth to a son.

Years later, tragedy struck. The child suddenly collapsed and died in her arms.

Here is where her faith shines brightest.

She did not scream.
She did not complain.
She did not announce the death.

Instead, she laid her son on the prophet’s bed — the same room she had built in faith — and went straight to the man of God.

When asked if everything was well, her powerful reply was:

“It is well.”

Even while holding unbearable pain, she chose trust over fear.

God honored that faith.

Elisha prayed, stretched himself upon the child, and life returned. The boy opened his eyes.

The room built for rest became a room of resurrection.

This story reminds us that:

  • Not every miracle begins with prayer — some begin with obedience

  • Not every blessing is asked for — some are prepared for

  • When we make room for God, He fills it with purpose

What you build in faith today may become the place of your miracle tomorrow.

Your quiet kindness…
Your unseen service…
Your consistent devotion…

None of it is wasted.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding me that You see every hidden act of faith and kindness. Teach me to serve You without expecting rewards. Help me to trust You even when I do not understand my circumstances. When my heart is heavy, give me strength to say, “It is well.” May my life always make room for Your presence, and may Your power flow through every space I surrender to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
